What is Gestalt Psychology

Image
Gestalt  Psychology This  school  of  Psychology  was  founded  in  Germany  about 1912  by  Max Wertheimer  and  his  colleagues  Kurt  Koffka  and  Wolfgang  Kohler. These  pioneer  psychologists  felt  that  structuralists  were  wrong  in  thinking  of  the mind  as  being  made  up  of  elements.  They  maintained  that  the  mind  is  not  made up  of  a  combination  of  simple  elements. The  German  word  Gestalt  means  “form”  or  “configuration”,  and  the  Gestalt psychologists  maintained  that  the  mind  should  be  thought  of  as  resulting  from the  whole  pattern  of  sensory  activity...

Fundamental Rights and Duties

Fundamental Rights   Fundamental Rights are a very important component of our Constitution. In fact, they are probably a unique feature of our Constitution.  You may note that the keenness and insistence of the founding fathers of our Constitution to include Fundamental Rights for all citizens were really shaped by their experiences of fighting the British colonialists. The framers of the Constitution had experienced first hand the crushing of liberties during different phases of subjugation by the British. They were determined that citizens of free India were not subjected to such experiences ever again. Hence, their strong emphasis on Fundamental Rights. The Constitution guarantees certain rights to its citizens  considered fundamental for their well-being. These rights are enforceable by the courts of law (unlike the Directive Principles of State Policy). They are the bedrock of an Indian citizen's life, liberty and property. The various Fundamental Rights are:...

For example in the expression Maharaja Ranjit Singh was the Lion of Punjab the meaning of fearless and bravery associated with lion are transferred onto Maharaja Ranjit Singh. So so in metaforce we find transference of meanings due to hidden or implicit comparisons that take place. Simile A simile , unlike a metaphor is an expression which makes an explicit or direct comparison between two things by use of words "like" or "as". For example in the expression her cheeks are like roses the meaning of redness and freshness transferred from roses to cheeks through a direct comparison. Sound Patterns

Rhythm English has what we call a stress - timed rhythm, which means that the stressed syllables come at approximately equal intervals of time , regardless of the number of the intervening unstressed syllables. Take a sentence like  A ' change of 'air would 'do you 'good . The stressed syllables are marked with the sign before them . Here we have 8 syllables of which 4 are stressed , and they come at equal intervals of time . So we have a rhythmic pattern consisting of unstressed syllables and stressed syllables coming alternately. This kind of rhythm is quite common in poetry and is called imabic metre. 'Metre' is the term used to indicate the number of stressed syllables that form the beats (or feet) and the arrangement of stressed and  unstressed syllables in each line of a poem. So in the line give  above has four beats or four feet. If we have a pattern in which one week ( unstressed) syllables is followed by one strong syllable , we call it ' iambic m...
